The iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max are Apple’s new flagships, and we already know what news they bring, when they will be available and how much they cost.
Apple today unveiled the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max – its latest flagship smartphones – with larger displays, an all-new camera button and the A18 Pro chip.
iPhone 16 Pro with a larger display
The iPhone 16 Pro has a 6.3-inch display, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max features a 6.9-inch display – the largest iPhone display ever. The bezels around the display are the thinnest of any Apple device. The titanium bezel now has a new blasted finish and comes in a refreshed selection of color options: darker Black Titanium, lighter White Titanium, Natural Titanium and the new Desert Titanium.
The device is powered by the new A18 Pro chip made with 2nd generation 3nm technology. It features a 16-core Neural Engine processor with 17% more memory bandwidth, making Apple Intelligence tasks up to 15% faster than the previous generation. The six-core processor has two performance cores and four efficiency cores, providing 15% more performance and 20% more efficiency. In addition, the six-core GPU is up to 20% faster than the A17 Pro and features hardware-accelerated ray tracing for more realistic lighting in games. Higher USB-C speed and double data processing for video encoding are also supported.
iPhone 16 Pro features a new 48-megapixel “Fusion” camera with a 2nd generation quad-pixel sensor that enables zero shutter lag for 48-megapixel ProRAW and HEIF photos. The ultra-wide camera features a 48-megapixel quad-pixel sensor with autofocus for the first time, and the 5x quad-telephoto lens is now available on both iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Apple has redesigned Photo Styles, allowing you to adjust colors and shadows in real-time and customize specific tones in an image. Styles are more deeply customizable, new black and white and natural options have been added, and can be applied during live previews or after a photo is taken.
The 48-megapixel Fusion camera in iPhone 16 Pro also supports 4K120 fps video recording in full HDR, which can be used in slo-mo or regular video mode. Playback options include 120, 60, 30 or 24 fps with intelligent audio editing to suppress wind noise. The ability to capture surround sound allows for immersive recordings, especially when paired with AirPods or Apple Vision Pro headphones.
The camera control is a special recessed sapphire crystal button with haptic feedback for camera app functions. Click the Camera Control button to launch the camera application. Click again to take a picture, while holding the button will record a video. The camera control button also offers touch gestures, thanks to which it can distinguish between a click and a light press. A light press reveals a clean new preview to help users focus on framing a shot, while a new overlay provides quick access to camera functions such as zoom and lens switching. Users can double tap to view additional controls and scroll to the preferred one. Camera controls will be updated later this year to allow a half-press to lock focus and exposure.
Camera Control also gets Visual Intelligence, a new Apple Intelligence feature that is exclusive to the iPhone 16 series. Visual Intelligence is invoked using Camera Control and allows users to point the iPhone’s camera at an object and pull up contextual details, such as restaurant information, as well as perform actions such as filling in a calendar event.
With improved microphones, iPhone 16 Pro supports surround sound sensing during video recording, allowing for greater immersion when using AirPods or Apple Vision Pro. The new Audio Mix feature uses machine learning to identify and separate background audio and speech. For example, the “In-Frame Mix” function isolates the voice of the person on the camera. “Cinematic Mix” handles film-like sound, with on-screen sound in the foreground and ambient sounds. Voice memos will also be updated, allowing you to layer a track on top of existing recordings.
Battery life has been improved to 33 hours on iPhone 16 Pro Max, thanks to a new mechanical architecture and advanced power management, while improved heat dissipation results in 20% better sustained performance.
The price of the iPhone 16 Pro starts at CZK 29,990 for 128GB and at CZK 35,990 for the iPhone 16 Pro Max with a capacity of 256GB. You can pre-order them already on Friday, they will hit the market on September 20.
