The year 2024 will probably be a year rich in novelties for the apple brand. Lately, the Korean media The Elec claimed that the Californian company is preparing to release Face ID facial recognition technology under the screen on its next iPhone in 2024. This is not surprising since the Cupertino company has already been preparing for this novelty for some time.
Apple would consider integrating the Face ID sensor under the screen for 2024
The first biometric unlocking system for iPhone Touch ID appeared in 2013 with the iPhone 5s. The technology then evolved over time and the fingerprint scanner gave way to a new facial recognition system, Face ID. With the iPhone 14 Pro, the notch has even given way to a pill integrated into the famous Dynamic Island.
And it won’t stop there according to the Korean media report. Indeed, Apple intends to further improve its facial recognition system. It will of course be the brand’s 2024 flagships that will benefit first. It will probably be the iPhone 16 Pro which will embed the Face ID sensors under the screen. This will then eliminate the notch and the punch to gain more space on the screen.
Will the system be as effective?
With this new sensor, the tools needed for Face ID will be transferred directly under the screen of the 2024 iPhone. Thus, when the camera responsible for face recognition is not used, it will no longer be visible on the display screen and will remain a normal area like any other.
Nevertheless, we wonder about the effectiveness of this new technology and we expect users to express their opinions, as with Touch ID. Indeed, the latter has been criticized because of the slowness of the sensors and this could also be the case with the next Face ID. It is still difficult to predict if the iPhone 16 Pro will have the same speed with this sensor under the screen.
We have already seen lenses placed under the screen with other Android devices, particularly on the ZTE side. And frankly, the results obtained with these sensors still left something to be desired. We then remain a little curious about how Apple intends to manage this integration on its next iPhone. In the meantime, we are preparing to welcome the four models of the iPhone 15 range in the fall of 2023. We should not expect too many aesthetic changes since they should look a lot like the iPhone 14 Pro . Thus, even non-Pro iPhone 15s will be entitled to the famous Dynamic Island pill.
