Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – One of the main features of the iPhone 16 series is the Apple Intelligence (AI) artificial intelligence feature. However, it turned out that this feature was not able to increase the interest of customers as Apple had hoped.
According to reports, the iPhone 16 was not interested in the first order period (pre-order). Of course, Apple needs the iPhone 16 to be the best selling product after slow iPhone sales over the past few quarters.
According to a report from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple only sold about 37 million units in the first weekend of iPhone 16 pre-sales, down more than 12% compared to the same period last year.
In his blog post, Kuo said that demand for the more expensive iPhone 16 Pro fell significantly year-on-year compared to the iPhone 15 launch.
In the first weekend of pre-sales, Apple sold 9.8 million iPhone 16 Pro devices and 17.1 million iPhone 16 Pro Max devices, down 27% and 16% year over year, respectively.
In contrast, sales of the regular iPhone 16 and Plus increased slightly compared to the iPhone 15.
One week after pre-sales began, Wedbush analyst Dan Ives pre-sold just slightly more than Kuo’s estimate of around 40 million units.
Meanwhile, CFRA Research technology analyst Angelo Zino also said that first-weekend pre-order sales data showed a year-over-year decline.
This pre-sales response seems to indicate that the promise of integrated AI features alone is not enough to pull Apple out of the iPhone sales slump.
Analysts say that most consumers may still not understand why AI features are worth using.
But on the one hand, Kuo reports shorter delivery waiting times for iPhone 16 Pro models, around 1-2 weeks in the first week of sales, compared to the iPhone 15 which made customers wait 3 -4 weeks for their tools.
