iPhone 16 Models to Feature Upgraded Microphones for Improved Siri Accuracy, According to Analyst

The highly anticipated iPhone 16 models are set to feature upgraded microphones that will enhance the accuracy of Siri, according to Haitong analyst Jeff Pu. These new microphones will have a higher signal-to-noise ratio compared to previous models, allowing the devices to capture your voice more clearly. This upgrade is expected to coincide with the release of iOS 18, which will introduce generative AI features later this year.

In a research note, Pu revealed that some of the generative AI capabilities of iOS 18 will be exclusive to the iPhone 16 models. This exclusivity is due to the upgraded microphones and the larger Neural Engine found in the A18 and A18 Pro chips that power these devices. These hardware changes have been rumored by other sources as well, further increasing the likelihood of their inclusion in the iPhone 16 series.

Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also expressed optimism about the impact of the upgraded microphones on Siri. Kuo stated that these improvements will significantly enhance the Siri experience. In addition to the higher signal-to-noise ratio, the new microphones will also offer improved water resistance, making them more durable and reliable.

Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed during an earnings call that the company is actively working on generative AI and will share more details later this year. The upcoming iOS 18 update is rumored to bring generative AI capabilities to various Apple apps and features, including Spotlight, Shortcuts, Messages, Apple Music, Numbers, Pages, Keynote, and Health. This expansion of generative AI across multiple aspects of the iOS ecosystem demonstrates Apple’s commitment to advancing its AI technology.

The announcement of iOS 18 is expected to take place at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. Following the announcement, the update will be released to all users in September, coinciding with the launch of the iPhone 16 series. This timeline aligns with Apple’s tradition of unveiling new software and hardware during these respective events.

In other news, Apple recently confirmed the release of iOS 17.4 in March. This update will introduce several new features and changes for the iPhone. Notable additions include significant App Store changes in the European Union and Apple Podcasts transcripts. The update will also bring new emoji and prepare for the launch of next-generation CarPlay later this year.

Furthermore, Apple has been working on expanding the use of iPhone driver’s licenses in the Wallet app. This feature allows residents of participating U.S. states to conveniently display their driver’s license or ID on their iPhone or Apple Watch. However, the adoption of this feature has been slow, with IDs in the Wallet app currently only available in a limited number of states.

Additionally, rumors have emerged about Apple’s development of a smart ring that can track users’ health biometrics. While Samsung is preparing to release its own version of a smart ring, Apple has reportedly been accelerating its efforts to compete in this market. Patents filed by Apple over the years suggest their interest in wearable rings, and this new report adds fuel to the speculation.

Looking ahead, Apple enthusiasts can expect a flurry of new releases in the coming months. Alongside the launch of iOS 18 and the iPhone 16 series, Apple is also expected to unveil new MacBook Air, iPad Pro, and iPad Air models in March. These releases will further solidify Apple’s position as a leader in the tech industry.

As we eagerly anticipate these new developments, it is clear that Apple continues to push the boundaries of innovation and deliver cutting-edge technology to its loyal customer base. With upgraded microphones and generative AI features on the horizon, the iPhone 16 models promise to deliver an enhanced user experience and solidify Siri’s position as a leading virtual assistant.
