We are only about a month and a half away from the presentation of this year’s iPhones. Apple will once again serve us four separate models, each of which will receive several intergenerational improvements. While the top models iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max (Ultra) will set new trends, the basic iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will inherit several elements from last year’s top models.
Apple deploys the controversial main camera
iPhone 15 and 15 Plus can look forward to the Dynamic Island display, a more powerful Apple A16 Bionic chipset, and last but not least, a new main camera with a resolution of 48 megapixels. Last year, Apple tested the camera with such a high resolution for the first time in the flagship iPhones 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, this year it will also be used in cheaper models. But it will not be the same camera.
According to the Digital Chat Station informant, Apple will use a significantly smaller sensor for the basic iPhones – last year’s Pro models used a 1/1.28″ image sensor, this year’s basic models will use a smaller 1/1.5″ sensor. The chip will be 27 percent larger than last year’s 12-megapixel cameras, but due to the significantly higher resolution, it will be equipped with significantly smaller pixels. This means they won’t be able to capture as much light and will be more prone to noise in photos and videos.
The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max are to keep the same main sensors as last year, Apple is said to be planning an upgrade for next year – according to Digital Chat Station, the upcoming generation would use larger sensors with a size of 1/1.14″.
Will the iPhone 16 Pro Max get a “super telephoto lens”?
In addition, we can count on a significant improvement in the telephoto lens for the larger iPhone 16 Pro Max. Already this year’s iPhone 15 Pro Max is to receive a periscopic telephoto lens with 6x optical zoom, next year Apple wants to go even further. According to Digital Chat Station, its module has a focal length of 300 mm, which would be a record in the world of smartphones – for example, the telephoto lens of the Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphone with 10x optical zoom has a focal length of 230 mm. We don’t yet know whether Apple, like Samsung, will deploy two telephoto lenses for different zoom levels.
