iPhone 15 Series: Apple Introduces USB-C Port and Faces Challenges

Jakarta

iPhone 15 series is predicted to slide with port USB-C replaces the Lightning port. With this change, Apple will have to lick his own spit.

According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple is predicted to introduce the iPhone 15 series while touting USB-C. They will focus on the benefits of USB-C for users such as:

Users can use one charger for iPhone, iPad and Mac Faster data transfer and charging for iPhone ProiPhone class will be compatible with billions of chargers owned by non-iPhone users.

Apple’s new position is quite surprising considering that the company created by Steve Jobs had refused to use USB-C for iPhones for years. But Gurman says this is part of Apple’s promotion rules.

“When introducing new products or dealing with media, (Apple) wants to always operate from a position of strength,” Gurman said in his latest newsletter, as quoted by Bloomberg, Tuesday (5/9/2023).

Because of this, Apple won’t mention the EU by name or refer to their efforts in recent years to criticize the EU’s move to make USB-C mandatory.

While still defying the obligation to use USB-C implemented by the European Union, Apple argues that this policy is not environmentally friendly because there are millions of Lightning cables that cannot be used. In addition, they also consider this policy to hinder innovation.

After complying with EU policies, Apple still has a number of internal concerns. One of them is the loss of revenue from Made for iPhone (MFi) licenses for accessories made by third parties.

On top of that, Apple executives are worried about fan outcry, just like what happened when Apple replaced the 30-pin connector on the iPhone with a Lightning port.

Moreover, Apple introduced iPhone new with a USB-C port when they haven’t included a charger head in the packaging since launching the iPhone 12 series.

This means that iPhone 11 users or earlier generations must have a charger head with USB-C. The reason is that Apple might include a USB-C to USB-C cable in the iPhone 15 packaging.
