iPhone 15 Pro’s 5G Modem Chip: Up to 24% Faster Speeds Revealed

Apple’s smartphone device, namely the iPhone, has been compatible with the 5G network since the iPhone 12 series was released in 2020. Since then, Apple has continued to improve the performance of the 5G iPhone until now with the latest model being the iPhone 15 Series.

Now, the iPhone 15 Pro’s 5G modem chip in particular is reportedly up to 24 percent faster than the previous generation. Is that true? What is the reason?

This report comes from SpeedSmart, an internet speed measuring tool. SpeedSmart tested the 5G communication speed of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max running using major American operators AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.

The report reveals that the iPhone 15 Pro has faster 5G communication speeds on all three carriers. Average download speeds have reportedly increased significantly.

Of all, Verizon’s network saw the most significant improvements. While the previous iPhone 14 Pro achieved an average download speed of 195.83 Mbps, the iPhone 15 Pro achieved an average of 243.06 Mbps.

If the claim is true and can be justified, this is a 24 percent increase in download speed. This is beneficial when users consume content.

Meanwhile on the T-Mobile operator, the iPhone 15 Pro showed an increase of 22 percent with the fastest average 5G download speed at 300.92 Mbps. And on AT&T download speeds were 14.6 percent faster with an average of 204.34 Mbps.

If the download speed increases, this is different from uploading or uploading. Upload speeds have not changed much across the three major operators.

What makes 5G on the iPhone 15 Pro faster? This 5G performance improvement is due to an upgraded modem on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models, as suggested by SpeedSmart.

While Apple hasn’t officially revealed the modem on the device, SpeedSmart states that the Pro model uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon X70 modem, which offers three main advantages.

The three advantages in question are much lower power consumption. Then, 5G carrier aggregation capabilities are also better on this model and connectivity is better when the iPhone is far from a cell tower.

With these advantages, SpeedSmart testing shows that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max offer up to 24 percent faster 5G speeds than the iPhone 14 Pro lineup.

Despite rumors that Apple is developing its own 5G modem, the company has extended its modem supply agreement with Qualcomm until 2026. This means that Apple may not introduce its own modem technology for several more iPhone generations.
