iPhone 15 Pro USB-C Cable Meltdown: Why You Shouldn’t Use Cheap Cables

Despite the fact that Apple has invested in the Lightning cable for many long years, always to the detriment of the USB-C standard, mainly because the sale of cables or license to use the technology was an incredible source of income for the North American giant . The reality is that in addition to money, Apple was also able to control the quality of the cables used with the iPhone.

Well, that no longer happens with USB-C! That said, if there were “crazy” Lightning cables of terrible quality, this is even more common on the USB side of things.

iPhone 15 Pro melted a cheap USB-C cable. It is an example?

So, do you still remember the conversation that Apple wanted to sell certified USB-C cables (MFI – Made for iPhone) before the launch of the new iPhone 15? Well, that never happened, which is exactly why you can charge your iPhone 15 with any USB-C cable you have at home. But… That doesn’t mean you should do it.

Well, in case you didn’t know, we have a viral story of a USB-C cable melting inside an iPhone 15 Pro Max while it was charging overnight. Photographs are being shared at an incredible rate on social media, and as such, we have to talk a little about the subject.

How did the USB-C cable melt?

Simple, if you read the thread on Reddit, you will notice that the user bought a generic USB-C cable from Amazon, just to get out of trouble, most likely by opting for one of the platform’s cheapest alternatives.

Is it a good idea to use a €2 or €3 cable on an iPhone 15 Pro Max that costs at least €1499? Of course it is not. But this is not just true for iPhone charging.

In short, at a time when we use USB-C cables for everything, or almost everything, don’t use “crappy” cables from unknown origins. More specifically, do not charge your laptop, smartphone or tablet with “Chinese” cables. Spend some more money, and have some quality in your hands.

In the medium/long term you will always save some money.
