One of the models in the series iPhone 15 which launches in 2023 is rumored to come with a periscope camera system that allows for enhanced optical zoom quality, according to analyst Jeff Pu.
With the periscope camera system, light entering the telephoto lens on the back of the iPhone will be reflected by an angled mirror towards the camera’s image sensor.
Changing the direction of light travel will allow the iPhone 15 to adjust for longer telephoto settings in the device.
With that, the iPhone allows users to get more image magnification without blur or blur.
Rumors of an iPhone featuring a periscope lens have been circulating since early 2020, first echoed by prominent analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Kuo initially said that the periscope lens would be a feature of the iPhone 14 Pro, but now it looks like we’ll have to wait until next year’s iPhone 15 Pro arrives.
Reported from Mac Rumors, some Android phones already carry periscope lenses, such as the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and Huawei P40 Pro+.
Both devices feature an optical zoom of up to 10 times. And with the addition of a periscope lens, the iPhone 15 Pro can follow in the footsteps of these two devices.
These improvements will have a significant impact on the experience of capturing images on iPhone devices. Because the most advanced iPhone device currently available, the iPhone 13 Pro, is only limited to 3x optical zoom.
However, before meeting the periscope lens carried by the iPhone 15, we will first see the update that Apple has presented for the iPhone 14 device.
Reported from Phone Arena, Apple is rumored to have several camera upgrades planned for the iPhone 14. The Pro model is rumored to get a 48MP main wide camera, up from 12MP on the current model.
The module also seems to allow 8K video recording. The sensor presented will reportedly be accompanied by a 12MP ultrawide and telephoto lens.
Then the three variants will at least have a screen with a notch design. And Apple is also reportedly considering ditching the SIM card slot on its devices.
