iPhone 14 plus. How to use? Okay, but some things irritate me [PIERWSZE WRAENIA]

iPhone 14 or iPhone 13 on steroids. Great smartphone, but not for the price [TOPtech]

I’ll admit it right away, I don’t use iPhone privately, so my contacts with them are very limited. It can be said that the equipment from Apple‘and I have more time in my hands for the first time. But I’ve used Android smartphones from every price range and probably from every manufacturer operating in Poland. From the cheapest devices, through most flagships, to almost every foldable smartphone on the market.

However, I know a little about the iPhone, but it is theoretical knowledge. So how am I going to treat the iPhone 14 Plus? This Apple smartphone – shown a month ago – fell into my hands. How is it used in practice?

Setting up and using iOS

I won’t write about the materials or the quality of workmanship here, because the iPhone 14 Plus is basically a larger copy of the iPhone 13. The case hasn’t changed, it’s still the same angular shape that is Apple’s signature. I just add that the screen is much larger and has a 6.7-inch diagonal here, although it is still quite nice in the hand. The display itself is also of excellent quality, showing vivid, well-saturated images and offering high contrast.

Instead, I’ll focus on the service Phone from the point of view of a person who has contact with the iPhone very occasionally. First elementthe installation went very well. I was just surprised at the amount of data Apple requires from me (aside from an email, it’s a phone number and address to access the Apple Store). However, I quickly dealt with it and moved on to the first installs application.

These, both system and third party, work very well (no surprise). The interface of the former is also beautiful, minimalist and logically designed. Even the use of iOS itself does not cause problems. The icons in the application library are intuitively sorted and the widgets on the left side are easy to use. I have nothing to complain about.

The downside: I only miss the navigation buttons, which I’m very used to and still use them (and not gestures) on Android smartphones. Well, that’s the charm of iOS. There are, however, some interesting details – incl. the ability to adjust the brightness of the flashlight from the taskbar. In summary, getting used to iOS – despite being a very different system from Android – hasn’t been a problem for me.

How will I upload it? The adapter is missing

The problem arose when the iPhone 14 Plus started demanding electricity. I was just out of the house and in my backpack I only had the factory-supplied Lightning to USB Type-C cable included in the set. There is no Apple adapter in the box, and USB Type-C chargers are pretty rare. As a distraction, I only picked one with the most popular “computer” type A input.

For the same reason now for everything accident I carry with me two cables and two charging adapters: one for the iPhone, the other for a private smartphone and all the accessories. Keep this in mind when buying your first iPhone. However, people deeply rooted in the Apple ecosystem don’t have such a problem.

Face ID works great, but …

The second annoying thing is how to unlock the screen. It is true that I must like Face ID here. It works great – it recognizes my face quickly and flawlessly. And this regardless of whether I wear prescription glasses or not. In fact, it works great in many situations. But not always, because I don’t always look at the phone screen when I want to unlock it. When it is in a car holder or on a desk, you have to pull it out or grab it and bring your face closer. And that’s a bit of a hassle.

It’s a shame, then, that for five years – when Apple introduced the iPhone X – the company relied so much on the fingerprint reader. After all, it can be hidden under the surface of the screen or under the power button, giving the user a choice (which in a smartphone of almost eight thousand PLN would be advisable). An interesting solution, however, is the possibility of unlocking the iPhone with the Apple Watch (when we have it on the wrist).

For now, these are just brief impressions of using the iPhone 14 Plus after the first few days with Apple hardware. Now is the time for more comprehensive testing. I will write more about the American manufacturer’s news in a separate text, which will soon appear on Next.Gazeta.pl.
