More and more Apple leakers agree: the iPhone 14 remains on the A15 chip from 2021, which we also saw in the iPhone 13 and iPhone SE. But is that so bad? We don’t think so.
iPhone 14 gets old chip
Every year it is always a certainty during the presentation of the new iPhone: the new model is faster. But that seems to be changing for the first time in 15 years.
Apple would have chosen to iPhone 14 the same A15 Bionic chip as its predecessor, the iPhone 13. Why? Due to ongoing chip shortages, Apple wants to guarantee that enough iPhones can be produced, and sticking to the old chip makes this possible.
And is that bad?
Fortunately, Apple was already so ahead of the competition with the A15 Bionic that it is actually not a big problem that the chip is used for another year. An example: the chip in the latest Samsung Galaxy S22 is almost 30% slower then the A15.
According to rumors, there will also be more RAM in the iPhone 14: 6 GB. The iPhone 13 only had 4GB. More RAM means that you can open more apps at the same time, so you don’t have to wait as often for an app to start up again. So you still notice a difference with the iPhone 13, which was also very fast.
iPhone 14 Pro will get A16
The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will both get a new A16 chip. This is expected to be about 10 to 20 percent faster than its predecessor. Incidentally, there is a chance that Apple will still play with marketing terms: the A15 with extra RAM could be called A16, and the chip in the Pro models the A16X.
The iPhone 14 (Pro) is likely to be announced on Tuesday, September 13. Until then, do you want to stay informed of all the news about the new iPhone? Then subscribe to our newsletter:
