iPhone 13, 14 and 15, a star analyst tells us (already) everything about the next three generations

Mark Gurman, the Bloomberg, and Ming-Chi Kuo, vie for the title of the most viable and fair source when it comes to predicting Apple’s future. This time around, the analyst unveils Apple’s iPhone intentions for the years 2021, 2022 and 2023.

This year, Apple would launch four new iPhones that wouldn’t really stand out from the generation in circulation. On the other hand, from next year, there should be a lot of upheaval.

iPhone 13: smaller notch and 120 Hz screen

The iPhone 13 (or 12S) would take the design of the iPhone 12 mini, 12, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. These four formats would be offered again, which means that Apple has no plans to abandon its ultra compact smartphone despite its likely poor sales.
Ming-Chi Kuo also specifies that everyone will use a Lightning port and that rumors about the arrival of an iPhone without a port are to this day inaccurate. According to Apple, the MagSafe ecosystem is not yet mature enough.

In terms of autonomy, Apple would benefit from a better arrangement of components (the SIM card slot would be integrated into the motherboard) to increase the size of the batteries used by its iPhones, which would weigh down its smartphones a little more. Qualcomm’s X60 modem would replace the current X55 and improve 5G performance.

Finally, the most important novelty of the iPhone 13 would be its screen. LTPO technology (like the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra), the new OLED panel chosen by Apple would be capable of adaptive refreshing up to 120 Hz.
Another change, the notch where Face ID is located would be smaller. However, Ming-Chi Kuo does not believe the rumors about the return of the Touch ID fingerprint sensor. According to him, nothing should change in 2021.

iPhone 14: a screen punched like Samsung?

In contrast, in 2022, Apple could make many changes. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 14 Pro should ditch the notch in favor of a punched camera similar to what the rest of the industry does (so the camera would take up tiny space on the screen). The non-Pro iPhone 14s could do the same, but that will all depend on Apple’s production capabilities at that time.

This information is surprising. In the case of dropping the notch altogether, would Apple turn its back on Face ID? Ming-Chi Kuo does not believe in a return of the fingerprint before 2023, which may suggest that the brand would hide the sensors necessary for facial recognition under the screen.

Also next year, Apple would launch a 5G compatible iPhone SE. This new product would keep the design of the iPhone 8 and iPhone SE released in 2020.

iPhone 15: a camera under the screen?

After the smaller notch in 2021 and the camera punched in 2022, Ming-Chi Kuo understands that Apple would like to release an iPhone with a camera under the screen in 2023. By then, the brand would also like to master the sensors imprint under the screen and periscope zooms. In almost three years, however, it is possible that his plans will evolve. It is not his practice to offer three successive evolutions of the same design.

The same year, Apple could launch a new mid-range iPhone in the iPhone 11 format. The latter would obviously be 5G compatible.
