iPhone 12 saved from drowning thanks to ingenious MagSafe solution

A man from Berlin dropped his iPhone 12 Pro into a canal. He didn’t show it up then, but decided to put in his MagSafe charger. He tried to fish up his smartphone using that charger. An ingenious idea, since the charger and the iPhone are attached to each other via magnets.

Last weekend, someone managed to drop their iPhone 12 Pro into a canal in Berlin. That was the moment when the owner thought: I will never see him again. However, as the iPhone 12 sank further and further into the muddy bottom, a great idea was raised that would save the phone.

iPhone 12 Pro saved by MagSafe charger

Initially, the owner tried to find the phone by digging through the mud himself, but that did not yield the desired result. That is why it was decided to use the MagSafe charger. That is a magnetic accessory, which the smartphone could stick to.

An improvised fishing line was made, where the MagSafecharger is attached. That line was dropped in the water on the spot, in the hope that the magnet would find the iPhone. And that turned out to be a golden idea, because not long after, the 12 Pro was found and the iPhone was fished out.

The iPhone is doing well

Despite the fact that the iPhone in question had been in the water and mud for hours at the time, the device is doing well. The battery is still as good as full afterwards. It is striking, however, that the search also managed to get another device out of the mud: a Nintendo Switch.

Oops: iPhone with MagSafe can affect pacemaker operation and even disable it

It is not clear how long the Switch has been in the mud. What is clear is that that device did not survive its muddy swimming adventure. Incidentally, in March an iPhone was also fished out of the water via a magnet. That iPhone was in a frozen lake for 30 days.
