Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The 5G technology embedded in the iPhone 12 Series is predicted to be Apple’s way of being able to work on the Chinese smartphone market. Can you displace Huawei?
China is the world’s largest 5G smartphone market. This is because the Xi Jinping government is pushing for the acceleration of the development of this next-generation internet network infrastructure in China.
“If we look at the second quarter of this year, almost half of smartphone shipments in China have a 5G connection,” said Will Wong, IDC’s research manager, as quoted by CNBC International, Thursday (15/10/2020).
“Of the 5 leading smartphone vendors in China, only Apple does not have a 5G cellphone. Upgrading a 5G cellphone will be very important for Apple to attract the attention of users in the Chinese market.”
According to Counterpoint Research data, in the first quarter of 2020, China’s 5G cell phone sales increased 120% over the same period last year, and had a market share of 15% of total smartphone sales in China. Huawei is said to control 60% of the mobile market.
So which new iPhones are popular? Will Wong revealed that wide screen phones are very popular in China. Chinese consumers are likely to like the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro which have 6.1-inch screens.
While the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which has a 6.7-inch screen, is likely to be considered too expensive by Chinese consumers.
“I believe in terms of size and price the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Prp will attract Chinese consumers. The iPhone 12 Pro Max is attractive to consumers because it has the largest screen of all Apple products, but the price is likely too expensive,” said Will Wong.
