This is a feature eagerly awaited in France by iPad users but also those who love its touch pen, the Apple Pencil. The Apple tablet is now able to recognize handwriting in the language of Molière.
Concretely, iPads compatible with the latest version of iOS 14.5 will be able to interpret words written with fingers or with an Apple Pencil and transcribe them into digital characters. If you have a document (a pdf with handwritten annotations for example) it will be possible to take advantage of the Smart Selection. This prompts you to tap twice quickly on an annotation (three times to enter the whole of a sentence) and it will then be automatically converted.
The system also recognizes the notes that you could enter on a contract, such as your address, your status or your telephone number for example. The idea is to facilitate interaction with documents without having to follow a tedious procedure to extract them and then process them in pdf format on dedicated software, before re-exporting them.
Especially, people used to taking notes with an Apple Pencil can copy and paste their handwritten text in digital format, including in the Notes app. A real plus that will mainly find use with the Scribble function. Here again, it’s about automatically transforming the handwritten text box to transcribe your precious notes taken, as if by magic. You can even cross out a word with Apple Pencil to automatically erase it, while circling it allows you to copy and paste.
