The iPad with OLED display make consumers dream. However, Apple it is currently limited to the mini-LED on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro M1. In July 2022, the Korean media ETNews announced the arrival of thinner iPads with OLED screens for 2024. These assumptions are starting to be confirmed.

In fact, a new report of Digitimes released on Tuesday, October 11, it just made it clear that Apple will use “hybrid” OLED screens for iPads in 2024. This technology would then allow Apple to produce thinner devices while reducing manufacturing costs.

In detail, these screens would be made up of technologies from flexible panels and rigid panels. Apple would therefore have chosen to combine the glass substrates of the rigid OLED with a thin film encapsulation (TFT – Thin Film Encapsulation) of the flexible OLED. This alloy would allow for thinner hard screens for iPads.

Pending the arrival of this promising new technology, Apple would continue to bet on the mini-LED. Recall that screens of this type are currently only used on 12.9-inch iPad Pro M1 and 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro with M1 Pro and M1 Max chips. Digitimesthe American company would wait for the “hybrid” OLED screen technology to be more mature to be able to use it, probably in 2024.
