Several different sources have already suggested that the iPad mini series will be redesigned iPad mini 6 this year, and now we’ve heard the same thing again, along with an estimate of the likely release window.
In Bloombergs Power On Newsletter Mark Gurman (who has a good history of Apple information) claimed that the iPad mini 6 will have a similar design as iPad Air (2020), which means no home button and probably thinner frames.
Gurman reportedly described this as “the biggest redesign in the nine-year history” of the iPad mini series, adding that it will also include the latest processor. It is not clear exactly what Gurman means by that, as we would be surprised if it has the M1 chipset that is in iPad Pro (2021)series, but it may have the A14 Bionic chipset used in iPhone 12series and iPad Air (2020).
Coming soon
Finally, Gurman said that the iPad mini 6 “should be ready” for release in the “fall” (which probably means September, October or November).
This is completely in line with what we have heard before from most sources, so it feels very likely that this will actually be the case, and now that Gurman is also repeating these rumors, it seems that nothing has changed on the design or release date front since the previous leaks.
Of course, we still can not be sure of any of this, but it seems very likely that an iPad mini with a new design will be out before the end of the year. This is good news for all fans of Apple’s smaller tablets, because iPad mini 5 was released all the way back in March 2019, and it did not offer as big an update as this seems to be.
