iOS and Android: Microsoft combines Word, Excel and Powerpoint

Microsoft combines the word processor Word, the spreadsheet Excel and the presentation software Powerpoint in one common mobile app, This saves users from installing three applications so far, and the file size of the Unified app is smaller than the three apps combined. The mobile app was previously tested in a beta test made available,

In addition, Microsoft equipped the new versions with new functions, for example a camera integration for easy conversion of photos from documents and tables into Word and Excel files. There is also a so-called action area with common tasks such as signing PDFs, a note function or scanning QR codes. It can also be used to share files between various devices linked to an account.

The new Microsoft Office app is for Android and iOS available. An adapted iPad version is to follow. The app itself is free of charge, Office can be used with an Office 365 subscription.

Microsoft plans to release three additional functions in the next few months. With Word Dictation, the user can dictate texts that are converted into written text. The apps should also be able to be controlled with voice commands.

There is also Excel Cards View. Data in an Excel table line should be readable and editable in a simple, easy to understand card format. This should simplify processing on mobile devices.

The third planned function is called Outline to Powerpoint. This enables presentation content that the user creates as a simple outline to be converted into a slide presentation.

Those who prefer to use separate apps can continue to do so: Microsoft’s Word, Excel and Powerpoint apps remain in the app stores.
