iOS 17 Introduces Grid Forecast to Increase Renewable Energy Reliance and Electricity Consumption Awareness

A new feature in iOS 17 should help users rely more on renewable energy and increase awareness of electricity consumption. The new feature is called Grid Forecast.

iOS 17 gets a new feature called Grid Forecast and this should help a user to use the electricity network in a better way. Grid Forecast uses the mobile’s location service to show when there is renewable energy near the user and when electricity consumption is low. By specifying in the app when the home’s power consumption is expected to be low, it should be easier to know when it is optimal to charge the electric car or use more power-hungry devices. It is currently not possible to use the information to start any automation, but manual input is still required.

The aim is of course to try to get more people to use electricity for longer favorable conditions for reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Mainly via electricity suppliers that use renewable wind or solar energy. The function is baked into the Home app in the form of an icon in the corner that notifies the user when it is time to load and run the dishwasher or washing machine. It should be possible to access the function via the Home app on a Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. A widget should also be able to be added to the desktop.

With this feature, we can only hope that support for to measure energy consumption is added to the Home app. For products that can measure this, the manufacturer’s app is required where this data is displayed.

Will this be any good or do we already fix it with Tibber for example?
