iOS 17.3 beta 1 Introduces Stolen Device Protection Feature: What You Need to Know

iOS 17.3 beta 1 introduces a new feature, Stolen Device Protection.

It is designed to protect your data stored on the device in case of theft and if the thief was able to spy on the unlock password. Apple calls the innovation an additional level of security.

When activating the option, there are three important points:

• Accessing saved passwords requires Face ID to verify it’s you

• changes to sensitive settings, such as your Apple ID password, are protected by a “security delay” (you will need to wait an hour to complete certain actions)

• Latency will not occur when iPhone is in familiar places, such as home or work

Any actions related to personal data or card data will require mandatory biometric authentication. And between each such action there will be a delay of one hour.

You can find the new option in the menu Settings -> Face ID & Passcode -> Protect Stolen Devices. [MacRumors]
