iOS 16 will introduce a battery percentage indicator – but not on all models

Apple has released another update to the iOS 16 beta so that developers can test it before launch. The new build includes many changes, and one of them is the battery indicator displayed on the icon itself in the upper right corner.

Such a small thing means that users will only have to look at the icon to know how much percentage is left, without having to swipe down. The numbers will be displayed on top of the icon itself.

However, not all iPhone models support the indicator. It will be available on iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone 12, and iPhone 13. However, it is not available on iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 13 mini.

Apple ditched the percentage indicator in the status bar after the launch of the iPhone X, where the notch with the camera and Face ID sensors didn’t leave enough room for numbers. The new design solves this problem in an obvious way – and why hasn’t this been thought of before?

In addition, the icon will change color depending on the battery status. For example, it will be green if the iPhone is charging.

The changes will go into effect with the launch of iOS 16 for all users later this year. If desired, the new indicator can be disabled in the settings.
