iOS 16 Let iPhone Users Ignore CAPTCHAs

JAKARTA – One more new feature is reported to be present in the latest operating system (OS) made by Apple, iOS 16 which will launch around September. That is a feature that allows iPhone or Mac users to bypass various CAPTCHA verifications that may be encountered when trying to log into certain apps or websites.

As if it is an open secret, even with the good intentions of preventing hacking attempts and ensuring that the application opener is not a robot, the existence of CAPTCHAs is often a hassle for many people.

They are required to guess a row of letters and numbers, shift puzzle pieces, or tell the difference between a hill and a mountain.

This troublesome thing will then be eliminated by Apple through a new feature in iOS 16 which they call “Automatic Verification”.

Reported Macrumors, the feature can later be found in the Apple ID Settings app. Precisely in the Password & Security section, with the name Automatic Verification.

Later iPhone users can simply push the slide next to the Auto Verification caption to make it active. Once enabled, the iCloud system will automatically verify the user’s device and their Apple ID account as a background.

That way, every time a user opens an application or web that requires CAPTCHA verification, the Automatic Verification feature will send what is called a Personal Access Token to the application or website. Makes users no longer need to manually verify the CAPTCHA.

“Private Access Tokens are a powerful alternative that helps you identify HTTP requests from legitimate devices and people without compromising their identity or personal information,” explains Apple, in the description of the WWDC 2022 video related to the topic.

To develop the Auto Verification feature, Apple worked closely with two major content delivery networks, Fastly and Cloudflare. Two technology companies have actually provided services to pass CAPTCHA verification for their users.

That’s why, what Apple presented through the Automatic Verification feature in iOS 16 is actually not something that is really new in the digital world. However, with Apple’s very large production scale, the emergence of these features is believed to have a significant impact on a broad scale.

Moreover, Apple also ensures that the Automatic Verification feature will be activated by default on iPhone devices.

Meanwhile, like most new technologies offered by Apple, privacy security issues also haunt the new features.

But Apple has also stressed that their feature will only use the user’s Apple ID as proof that they are a real person, and will not send any data (such as an email address or phone number) at all to the app or website they are about to open.
