Compared to users from other regions, iOS users in Mainland China received another change in the latest version of version 16.1.1. After the update, the time limit for opening AirDrop to “everyone” at a time has become ten minutes. And by default, the device will not accept any files sent via AirDrop. Because of this change, some people believe it can reduce the risk of AirDrop harassment in public places like subways. But since this is a change that is currently only seen on mainland China models, it is inevitable to wonder if it has anything to do with the government’s stringent censorship requirements.

However, according to Apple’s statement to Bloomberg, AirDrop will also be launched worldwide starting next year. It is not a region specific feature, it is intended to “reduce unwanted file sharing”.
