Apple’s next operating system for iPhones and iPads will be called iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, respectively; this prediction was easy to make. If Apple sticks to its pattern that has been established for years, the mobile operating system will be released in the fall, more likely towards mid to late September. With iOS 15, support for quite old devices such as the first generation iPhone 6S and SE will be discontinued, but this was somewhat foreseeable, as the devices are now five and five and a half years old.
What the iOS 15 has to offer, writes the
usually well networked with Apple engineers at “Bloomberg”
: Apple wants to expand the notifications and deliver them differently depending on the status of the user. The iPad receives widgets on the start screen, and users will apparently only be able to fill a screen of the tablet with widgets. iMessage is supposed to get a little more attention in order to be able to compete more with Whatsapp. Apple will also provide iOS users with more insight into the data traffic of the apps when it comes to data protection.
iMessage more like Whatsapp:
Apple wants to give its Messenger more functions that make it act more than a social network. Whatsapp from Facebook is still the market leader among messengers, and Apple wants to invest a little more here. However, according to Blooomberg’s sources, developments are still in the fairly early stages, which could mean Apple can hold them back for iOS 15.1 or iOS 15.2.
Situational notifications:
Apparently, iOS developers are planning a somewhat more flexible way of functioning for notifications, they should be delivered differently, depending on what time of day it is and what situation the user is currently in. The “Do not disturb” setting already exists, which can hide all ringtones and visual notices. With iOS 15, users can select additional categories in the settings and in the control center, such as “While working”, “Out and about”, etc. The system will apparently also provide automatic responses, which are currently only possible in the “Do not disturb while driving” mode. Such automatic responses will depend on the situation in which the user is currently in and apply system-wide.
iPadOS 15:
Apple has already updated the iPads Pro this week, the rest of the range can only be expected in late autumn. In terms of software functions, the iPads are to receive a fundamental revision of the start screen, for the first time since the introduction of the first iPad in 2010. Similar to the iPhones, widgets will be possible, automatically updated information boards from different apps and even from websites. According to “Bloomberg”, users with iPadOS 15 can only fill the entire screen with widgets; at the moment, a combination of app icons or folders and widgets is possible on the iPhone.
privacy
: Apple’s work on data protection only sporadically revamped animations and graphics, if at all, the system asks whether you want to allow an app to track you through the web. It is all the more important that Apple repeatedly emphasizes its data protection efforts and presents them on the keynote stage. It will probably also happen at WWDC, so iOS 15 can show the user which apps are collecting data about their behavior in the background.
