WWDC 2021 has officially kicked off, and Apple has already taken advantage of the first day of the conference to lift the veil on iOS 15, the new version of its mobile operating system that will equip compatible iPhones from next fall.
The first big new feature for iOS 15 is FaceTime, which uses lessons learned during the pandemic period to help users stay even more connected. To that end, the Cupertino brand will bring Space Audio and voice isolation compatibility to the video chat service, making the experience even more immersive.
Apple will also introduce a Portrait Mode in iOS 15, putting the focus of the image on the user while blurring the background. To facilitate the connection to FaceTime calls, we will also have the right to FaceTime Link, which you can send to any other user so that they can join the call. Better yet, the function can now be used by Android and Windows users via the web.
FaceTime will allow you to share multimedia files during calls, thanks to SharePlay. If you want others to know what series you’re watching on Apple TV+ or what music you’re listening to on Apple Music, you’ll now be able to share that information directly on FaceTime.
iOS 15 is a step forward from Apple
As for iMessage, the communication application will receive several new features. You’ll be able to share photos in collage or stack format, share playlists or Apple News articles and have access to new tools that let you spread your music tastes, images, Safari articles and much more.
Apple also unveiled Focus, which brings us several changes to notifications. Notifications will now present a summary of everything that is sent to you at any given time and is not a priority, all this at the time of day you choose. What’s more, when you activate Don’t Disturb, anyone who sends you a message will know that you don’t want to be disturbed.
Focus also allows you to define modes for Work, Personal etc. Thanks to Artificial Intelligence, your iPhone will be able to “guess” the notifications you want to receive (you can, for example, avoid notifications from co-workers outside office hours).
Finally, Apple will also remodel some of the features of the Wallet, Weather and Maps apps with iOS 15. Wallet will now be able to include personal documents (for now only in the US), the Weather app will be redesigned and Maps will be offer new design with more detailed information and a Night Mode for driving after sunset.
iOS 15 will have a trial period that starts today, but the official launch is scheduled for the fall, when the brand will introduce the iPhone 13 family.
