Apple has on Monday announced that WWDC 2021 kicks off on June 7 with a traditional keynote. The presentation can be viewed from 19:00 Dutch time via Apple.com, Apple TV app, Apple Developer app and YouTube. During the event, Apple will unveil iOS 15, iPadOS 15, macOS 12 and possibly new hardware. Shortly after the confirmation, the usually knowledgeable Jon Prosser came with the news that new MacBook Pro models will be unveiled.

Prosser posted this claim on Twitter after there was fierce speculation that the artwork for WWDC 2021 could hint at new MacBook Pros. Further information has not yet been shared, but the next update for the MacBook Pro series is expected to result in a new design with possibly a miniled screen. The design is said to be similar in style and thickness to the iPad Pro, coming in 14-inch and 16-inch screen sizes.

The bezel with the MacBook Pro logo would disappear, while Apple would like to reintroduce an HDMI connection, MagSafe and a slot for a microSD card. Under the hood there would be an Apple M1X-soc. This chip has eight performance-oriented CPU cores and two efficient cores. Two variants are expected: one with 16 GPU cores and the other with 32 cores.
WWDC typically focuses on developers and software, but in 2019 the event was also used for the launch of the Mac Pro and its accompanying Pro Display XDR. It is therefore not inconceivable that new hardware will be presented again this year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be fully online and streamed directly from Apple Park.
