Small, discreet, but very practical novelty of the Files app in iOS 15 and iPadOS 15: during a large transfer, it can finally display a progress indicator. An additional icon is added at the top right of the screen, with a circle that fills in depending on the progress of the transfer. By touching this icon, you will be able to see a progress bar and above all a status, expressed in amount of remaining and total data, as well as an evaluation of the remaining time.
So many elements that we are used to finding on traditional computers, but which were strangely absent on iPadOS and iOS. The icon will appear during all transfers, including those made from one location to another in the Files app, for example from iCloud Drive to the device’s local storage. However, this novelty will be especially useful if you use an external storage volume and transfer documents from this volume to the iPhone or iPad, or vice versa.
Speaking of storage volume, iOS 15 is now able to read a hard drive formatted in NTFS, Microsoft’s file system. As on macOS, this is partial support, read-only. In short, you will be able to access the volume, open a file that is stored on it or transfer it to your iOS device. However, you will not be able to edit a file or transfer a document from the iOS device to this storage volume.
The other big new feature of the Files app is the addition of editing tools for PDFs:
