We got a rumor from France in the late Sunday evening. Accordingly, Apple should support the same iPhone models with the upcoming update to iOS 14 as is the case with iOS 13. With iPadOS, on the other hand, there should be a few drawbacks.

iOS 14 is said to support the same iPhones as iOS 13

In June this year, Apple will give a first look at iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 at the Worldwide Developers Conference. iPhonesoft.fr reports that iOS 14 will support the same iPhones as iOS 13. IPadOS 14 is said to have a few drawbacks.

If you believe the assessment, iOS 14 will continue to be compatible with the older iPhone SE and iPhone 6S (Plus). All iPhone models that have been on the market since then are to be supported.

This would make the following devices compatible with iOS 14

  • iPhone 11 Pro (Max)
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone XS (Max)
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone 8 (Plus)
  • iPhone 7 (Plus)
  • iPhone 6S (Plus)
  • iPhone SE
  • iPod touch (7th generation)

Of course, iOS 14 will also run on all iPhones that will be launched later this year. We are expecting a total of five new models. In spring there could be a new entry-level iPhonewhich will replace the iPhone 8 and in the fall Apple will present four new flagship models, Of course, in the course of the iOS 14 beta phase, it could also turn out that it no longer makes sense to provide iOS 14 for the iPhone 6S (Plus) and iPhone SE. Then Apple could still adjust the compatibility for these devices.

There is also an appetizer for iPadOS 14. Accordingly, the iPad mini 4 and the iPad Air 2 (the devices are powered by the A8 or A8X chip) are no longer to be supported by iOS 14.

So the iPadOS 14 lineup would look like this

  • 12.9-inch iPad Pro
  • 11 inch LiPad Pro
  • 10.5 inch iPad Pro
  • 9.7-inch iPad Pro
  • iPad (5th generation)
  • iPad (6th generation)
  • iPad (7th generation)
  • iPad mini (5th generation)
  • iPad Air (3rd generation)

The new iPads, which will be launched in 2020, will of course also support iOS 14. Amongst other things it should be the turn of the new iPad Pro, As always, you should approach Apple rumors with a healthy dose of skepticism. Apple offers relatively long software updates for its devices. Every support ends there at some point.
