With iOS 14, Apple has revised the way the iPhone of the “Plus” series manage the rotation of their home screen. As a reminder, these models can display the home screen and the dock of the four apps in landscape format. This is a peculiarity that the “Max” models that came after did not inherit.
With iOS 14 on a “Plus” iPhone, the swivel still works… unless at least 1 widget has been placed on the screen. And if you have multiple screens full of apps, neither will any more rotate once a widget is on one of them. It’s all or nothing.
This last point can be justified at the limit, otherwise users might not understand why a screen (with a widget) does not rotate while its neighbor (without a widget) rotates perfectly.
We can argue that iOS 14 is in beta and that this may still evolve by the fall. However, we will not bet much on it. There would be a lot of fun if iOS knew how to manage the display orientation of home screens filled with widgets while iPadOS 14 in fact less than less on this same subject …
