iOS 14, iPadOS 14 and tvOS 14: the public beta is online!

iOS 14 is available in public beta, while Apple deploys the software on its servers. Users not afraid to wipe the plasters and registered for Apple beta software program will be able to install and test the new mobile operating system on their test devices. From our own experience, iOS 14 is relatively stable (few crashes, but some unwanted restarts, however), but there is still some optimization work around autonomy. The public beta and beta 2, delivered to developers earlier this week, have the same build number, 18A5319i.

This big update brings a lot of new features, of course! Starting with widgets, which bring a welcome breeze of freshness to the aging iPhone home screen. The app library is a solution for all those who accumulate applications without knowing how to classify them. Picture in Picture mode lets you play a video while doing something else.

You can tap two or three times behind the smartphone to launch an action. The Camera app is full of new features, including for older iPhone. We can go on vacation abroad and make ourselves understood thanks to the new Translate app. Apple strengthens user protection by limiting advertising tracking… And this is only a preview of what to expect if you install this public beta!

How to downgrade to iOS 13?

You have installed the beta of iOS 14 but it does not suit you and you would prefer to return to iOS 13? It’s possible. Apple offers two methods to fall back on its feet. The first is also the simplest: go to Settings > General > Profile and device management. Then touch IOS beta software profile, then delete the profile. Then restart the device.

And then ? Well … We will have to wait for the next update of iOS 13! Because it is only then that the iPhone will erase all iOS 14… Currently, we are in the third beta for iOS 13.6, whose final version should not be long: BMW has indeed ad the launch of its CarKey virtual car key, a feature of iOS 13.6.

It is possible to go faster, but it will then be necessary to restore the iPhone or the iPad with a Mac or a PC, equipped with iTunes (or directly from the Finder from Catalina). After restoration, we can install an archived backup, but not the most recent backup if it was made from iOS 14 (… since you are going to reinstall iOS 13).

It is necessary to connect the device to restore to the computer, place it in recovery mode, then click on the option Restore when it appears. The procedure will reinstall the latest and most up-to-date version of iOS 13.

If there is something to do with iOS 14, it is clear thatiPadOS 14 is a little vintage. Apple has made its effort with iPadOS 13.4 and its cursor, but the absence of widgets on the home screen of the tablet – they remain wisely stored in their column on the left – is a bit of a shame. Fortunately, the improved support of the Apple Pencil and its new doodle function somewhat catch up, as does the sidebar which gives an even more professional look to the software of the tablet.
