iOS 12.5.5 is now available for download
Apple regularly releases updates for older devices. Today it is iOS 12.5.5 (build number 16H62), which probably fixes most vulnerabilities. Recently, Apple has come across a number of exploits, such as that of the Pegasus spyware. It is not yet clear whether these updates are intended for this; Apple doesn’t give any information about it. We don’t expect any new functionality in iOS 12.5.5, but we do expect all kinds of security improvements so that you can work safely on your older device. The previous update, iOS 12.5.4, was released earlier this year in June.
Apple will continue to release updates for at least five years after a device is released and this is also the case with these older devices. The following iPhones are suitable for iOS 12.5.5 update:

If you have a slightly older device, such as the iPhone 5, you cannot update.
Download iOS 12.5.5
To download iOS 12.5.5, follow these steps:
- On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Software Update. Wait for the update to appear.
- tap on Download and install.
- Wait for your device to reboot and the installation to complete.
You can also perform the update through iTunes or Finder. To do this, connect your iPhone or iPad to your Mac or PC with a cable and open iTunes or Finder in macOS Catalina and above. Click on your connected device and select Looking for an update. The update will then be downloaded and installed on your device.
