New Delhi
The International Olympic Committee has suspended funding to the Indian Olympic Association as the conflict between President PT Usha and the 12-member governing body escalated. The decision is a heavy blow to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), which is mired in internal strife. Last day, the governing body members had passed a no-confidence motion against Usha. It is stated that this will be at the meeting of the special steering committee which will be held on the 25th.
The IOC had warned them to stop among themselves and solve the problems through internal discussion. The decision to stop financial support by the IOC was made at the Governing Board meeting held on the 8th.
“Now there is uncertainty. Until the matter is resolved, no financial assistance will be allowed to the Indian Olympic Association. Henceforth, only scholarship will be given directly to the sportspersons’- IOC said in the letter sent to PT Usha. After Raghuram Iyer was appointed as the CEO of the society, there was a dispute between Usha and the members of the governing body.
