Meeting of the Mayor of Ioannina with the Consul General of France in Thessaloniki
The Consul General of France in Thessaloniki, Jean-Luc Lavaud and his colleagues, was welcomed today in his office by the mayor of Ioannina, Thomas Begas.
At the heart of the meeting, in which the honorary consul of France in Ioannina, Dora Giambiri, also participated, was the arrival of the Olympic Flame in our city on April 24.
Paris is the host of the Olympic Games this summer and Ioannina will be one of the Greek stations where the Olympic flame will travel until it reaches the French capital.
In this context, the details of the organization of various events that the French side wishes to hold in Ioannina were discussed, as well as the overall preparation of this important event.
At the same time, on behalf of the municipality of Ioannito, questions concerning city diplomacy were raised and the possibilities of twinning our municipality with cities in France were discussed.
Finally, it was agreed to cooperate on cultural issues which will be specified in the next meeting.

We had a very good cooperation with the Consul General of France in Thessaloniki and his associates, as well as the Honorary Consul of France in Ioannina and I am sure that we will work together perfectly for the reception of the flame. I am equally sure that it will be done in the other fields that we discussed today, which concern both city diplomacy and cultural exchanges”, said Mr. Begas after the end of the meeting.
