With special splendor and honor, the Ioannina is preparing to celebrate October 28, the anniversary of the historic “No” and the heroic battles that took place in Epirus, on the Kalpaki front. The festival is expected to end both in the city of Ioannina and in the region of Kalpaki, honoring the memory and sacrifice of the Greek soldiers.

The program of this year’s events at the National Anniversary of October 28 in the city of Ioannina has been signed by the Regional Governor of Epirus, Alexandros Kahrimanis.

The detailed program of the national anniversary day, Monday 28 October 2024, includes the following:

7:30 am Christmas morning with joyful church bells and with the participation of the Philharmonic Municipality of Ioannina and the military music playing tours and processions in the streets of the city of Ioannina

8:00 am Official flag raising at the Headquarters of the 8th Infantry Division

10:30 a.m. Official Doxology at the Metropolitan Church of Saint Agios Athanasios. Speech by Mrs. Olympia Bakali, Principal of Anatoli High School

11:15 a.m. Memorial prayer to the Hero of Byzanomachon, laying a wreath

12:00 pm Student parade, students, scout guides, disabled war victims, defense groups, armed forces and security forces

Epic 1940 will be honored with special splendor this year in the Municipality of Pogoni with the 10-day events that will take place in the area affected by the Italian invasion during the Second World War.

On Saturday, October 26, at Hani Delvinakiou, there will be a memorial service, wreath laying and a speech by Mrs. Noni Lefkothea, Philologist and Doctor of the University of Ioannina.

The events will end on Sunday, October 27 at the Fighter’s Monument in Kalpaki, with a memorial service, an attack on the dead, a speech by the Rector of the University of Ioannina, Mrs. Anna Batistatou, and of course the re-enactment great of the Battle of Kalpaki.

On Monday, October 28, at the Monastery of Saint Sosinou, there will be a Divine Liturgy, memorial service, wreath laying, speech by Mr. Konstantinos Aletra, Principal of Parakalamos High School and poems by students of Parakalamos Primary and High School.

In the meantime, on October 23, another special event will be held in Athens at the War Museum during the presentation of the book by Mr. Georgios Sourlas “Honor and glory to the heroes of the 1940 epic”, called – organization. by Papazisi Publications and the Union of Children and Relatives of the Fallen during the Epic 1940-1941.

During the event, there will also be a presentation of the Memorial to the Fallen, the large project that is progressing at an intense pace and was a moral commitment of the Municipality of Pogoni.

The Memorial to the Fallen is being built at the place “Vourliasos”, at the beginning of the path to the top of the Battle Hill and is part of the vision and the great planning of the Municipal Authority for the construction of a “History Park” as a symbol honor to those who fought and sacrificed for freedom and their country. The project has a budget of €1,250,000.00 including VAT. 24% and its funding comes in part from the Hellenic Parliament (€793,600.00), with Mr. Kapsalis thanking Mr. Kostas Tasoula for their support, and the rest from Pogoni Municipality’s own resources.

Events in Sakellariko and Eleousa

With a series of events, the Municipality of Zitsa is celebrating the national anniversary of NO. On Saturday, October 26, a memorial event will be held in Sakellariko, the place where the hero Squadron Leader Ioannis Sakellarios fell with his plane in November 1940 during an aerial battle with Italian fighters and bombers.

At eight in the morning a religious service will be held in the Church of Saint Agios Nikolaos and at ten o’clock a memorial service will be held at the grave of Sminagos. Wreath laying will follow.

On Monday, October 28, at the Church of the Holy Dormition of the Virgin in Eleussa, there will be an official doxology and speech of the solemn day by Nikolaos Chekas, deputy director of the 2.u Primary school.

At 10:45pm a memorial service will be held at the Heroes’ Memorial and immediately afterwards a wreath will be laid.

The events will be completed with the parade which will be held in the town hall square, at 11:45.

In N. Tzoumerka

Celebrations for the national anniversary of October 28, 1940 are organized by the Municipality of North Tzoumerka in collaboration with the local community groups.

On Monday, October 28, the day of the national anniversary, at 7:30 am, the Orthros and the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated in the Holy Church of Agia Paraskevi in ​​Pramanto, where an official eulogy will be given at 10:30 am. and will be forgiven.

The events will continue at the Heroes’ Memorial with a memorial service and wreath laying. A moment of silence will then be held and then the National Anthem will be sung. Then there will be a procession of school pupils.

The local presidents lay wreaths in every community.
