Inworld AI and Microsoft Partnership: Revolutionizing Game Development with AI Tools

Microsoft has joined forces with Inworld AI
Together, they want to create tools for game developers to make video game creation easier
It is not yet certain when we will see them

Artificial intelligence is starting to gain ground this year, and it is almost certain that we will see it in all possible and impossible tasks across various fields in the coming years. Video games, which are relatively close to artificial intelligence, are no exception. The giant Microsoft has also decided to explore the possibilities offered by AI, which has joined forces with the company Inworld AI and is preparing to create tools that could greatly facilitate and speed up the work of developers. Since game creation is becoming more and more expensive and time-consuming, these tools will certainly come in handy.

Artificial intelligence will help game developers

From the collaboration, Microsoft promises resources that will allow development studios to create characters, stories or tasks with the help of artificial intelligence. AI could facilitate the creation of detailed scripts, dialog trees, branching tasks and more. The cross-platform AI toolkit will include an AI design copilot for scripts and dialogue, and an AI character engine that can be integrated into games and used to dynamically generate stories, quests and dialogue.

“At Xbox, we believe that with better tools, creators can create even more exceptional games,” explains Haiyan Zhang, general manager of gaming artificial intelligence at Xbox. “This partnership will bring together Inworld’s experience working with generative AI models for character development, Microsoft’s leading cloud solutions including Azure OpenAI Service, Microsoft Research’s technical insights into the future of gaming and the Xbox team’s strengths in revolutionizing accessible creator tools for all developers,” added Zhang.

The company Inworld is working on an NPC enriched with artificial intelligence that responds to player questions similar to ChatGPT or Bing Chat, i.e. to questions in natural language. This artificial intelligence can respond with a unique voice and can work with complex dialogue trees or personalized dynamic in-game stories. Inworld technology can also be used for storytelling, so for example companions in top-down RPGs can warn of approaching groups of enemies.

Don’t overlook

Artificial intelligence brings “life” to games. How will the game worlds change?

“Artificial intelligence has long been an integral part of game development, with applications ranging from enemy AI to procedural generation,” said Ilya Gelfenbeyn, CEO of Inworld AI. “The advent of large-scale language models and generative AI has unleashed new possibilities for storytelling and character engagement in games.” Neither company has yet said when we will see the first available tools.
