TIJUANA.- According to the records of the Blood Bank of the Tijuana General Hospital (HGT), severe bleeding from injuries or trauma, anemia and complications from chronic diseases -such as cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure- are the main causes of transfusion of products derived from blood, which are required in all age groups.
In this sense, the doctor attached to the HGT Blood Bank, Gloria Ivonne Martínez de Alba, mentioned that the altruistic and voluntary donation of blood is the best alternative to meet the needs of patients in a greater state of vulnerability, who in their Most do not have family members and / or friends to make the donation in a medical emergency, or during long-term treatment.
He reported that oncological diseases in minors are a recurring reason for the transfusion of blood products, mainly platelets and erythrocyte concentrates, and may require up to 100 units during the fight against this disease.
Therefore, he called on the community to join the altruistic donation of blood at the General Hospital of Tijuana, which will save the lives of up to four people.
Interested persons can go to said hospital unit from Monday to Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., presenting an official credential with a photograph, without having eaten greasy food, banana or dairy prior to the donation. Also, if you want to schedule your appointment, you can call 664 684-00-78 ext. 2425.
“This process is safe, both for the donor and for the patient who receives the product, which involves various steps that guarantee its safety, among which are the following: Donor registration, taking vital signs, sample analysis. blood, information and awareness talk, bleeding, taking a snack and delivery of the donation receipt ”, expressed Martínez de Alba.
He added that the HGT Blood Bank provides the units required by the patients of the Tecate General Hospital, in Playas de Rosarito and collaborates with the rest of the public and private hospitals in the town, in order to safeguard the life of the population.
It is worth mentioning that, prior to the pandemic, an average of 1,000 people attended each month to donate blood to the HGT, of which around 800 were able to make the donation. Throughout the health crisis, this figure was reduced to an average of 600 donors per month, of which 25% did not meet the health requirements to make the donation.
