Invitation vaccination 16 and 17 year olds out this week

The invitations for the vaccinations of the 16 and 17 year olds will be sent out before 11 July. Flemish Prime Minister Jan Jambon (N-VA) and Flemish Minister of Health Wouter Beke (CD&V) announced this today during a visit to the vaccination center in Affligem.

The vaccination campaign in Flanders is running at full speed. No less than 86% of the over 18s already received their first injection. As a result, Flanders vaccinates the fastest within the European Union, and in Europe only has to give way to Iceland. “The IMC Public Health decided on May 27 that 16- and 17-year-olds could also be vaccinated. That decision is now being put into practice”, says competent minister Wouter Beke. “More than 50,000 16- and 17-year-olds have already been vaccinated for the first time.”

July will be the month of the second injections. This and next week, no fewer than 1.1 million vaccines will be put out, of which more than 845,000 will be second shots. In this way a full vaccination coverage of 80% can be achieved by the end of July. “With the increasing threat of variants, a complete vaccination is extremely important,” says Flemish Prime Minister Jan Jambon. “I therefore want to send a message to the Flemish: enjoy the summer, stay careful and get your second shot. The more Flemish people are vaccinated, the more we can enjoy each other.”
