Dawn march

Russia, Estonia, 2022, 90 minutes

Director: Roman Kachanovs

Cast: Ivan Semyonov, Varvara Komarova, Sola Monova, Felix Bondarev, Liana Griba, Kuzma Kotrelyov, Dan Rozin, MC Senechka, Aleksandra Kiselyova, Artemy Troitsky, Naik Borzov, Zhanna Aguzarova, Garik Sukachev, Nikola Kosinska, Gara Kachanova, Vasiliy Zvyozdkin

The action of the film takes place in Moscow region in the nineties of the 20th century. Capitalism is developing in the former USSR. The main character earns money by filming commercials and organizing concerts. He undertakes to organize a competition for young musicians. The winner has already been chosen. Unknown musicians representing various musical genres and directions gather to perform. Artists are united by the desire to express themselves. Chance introduces its own corrections to the course plan, and the event takes an unexpected turn – the winner is unknown until the last number of the competition. The original soundtrack of this film included a significant number of songs and musical compositions created specifically for the film and not previously performed (MS Senechka, RSAK, Zhenya Lyubich, Gara Kachanova and others). However, the film is not only about the competition of musicians back in 1997. This film is about the sense of ease and freedom of that time. This film is a farewell to freedom and hope for something good in Russian society.

The director of the film, Roman Kachanov, left Russia immediately after finishing the production of the film. In his speeches, he supported the struggle of the heroic people of Ukraine against Russian aggression (interview with Dmitry Gordon https://youtu.be/wPsIGAKGmCM, interview with Vadim Radionova https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1QHyFvcjlM ).
