Invisible ‘omikron 2.0’ variant may bring good news

“The BA.2 variant probably originated in India, where it already accounts for half of the infections,” says biostatistician Tom Wenseleers: ©  Dirk Vertommen

A new version of the virus has once again been found in our country. It is a sub-variant of omikron, with the name BA.2. Its big brother BA.1 currently accounts for 85 percent of the virus circulation. The rest was attributed to Delta, which held out unexpectedly bravely. But perhaps BA.2 has already settled deeper here, and delta is already further in decline. However, we cannot be completely reassured about this new version.
