Raiffeisen Lagerhaus Waidhofen has been considering modernizing and expanding the Lagerhaus home and garden center in Groß-Siegharts for some time. On Thursday evening, the project with an investment sum of five to six million euros was presented to the public for the first time in the course of information for residents.
As division manager Markus Fasching explained, the warehouse in Groß-Siegharts is to become a full-service provider, where you can do everything from grocery shopping to building a house. Instead of erecting a new building on the “green field”, it was decided in the course of planning to use the existing location. “Here we have a central location with good infrastructure, we can be reached on foot within short distances and can offer everything in one place,” Fasching summarized the advantages.
The centerpiece of the expansion will be a 790 square meter Spar market as a local supplier, which will be operated by the warehouse as an independent Spar merchant and supplied by Spar. The storage areas will be expanded from the current 400 to 800 square meters, the outdoor area will remain at 630 square meters. 1,100 square meters of retail space are available in the building and garden area. The parking areas will be expanded by 88 barrier-free customer parking spaces, and a photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof.
After the feedback from residents at the information event was consistently positive and suggestions for improvement such as pedestrian access were taken directly, the next step is the official submission of the project. If everything goes according to plan, the groundbreaking could take place as early as October of this year. The existing building will then be renovated first, which should be completed in spring 2024. The opening of the local supplier is planned for the end of 2024.
The home and garden center will remain open throughout the construction phase. The advantages for customers are a larger range and offers on 2,500 square meters of presentation space with local suppliers, home and garden market at one location. The goods can all be paid for at one checkout – it is therefore not necessary to go to separate checkouts for supermarket goods and home and garden market items.
Last but not least, the expansion of the location also serves to secure the existing jobs in Groß-Siegharts in the long term and even creates around 20 new jobs.
