Health: investigators track down health insurance fraud
A record amount of 466 million euros for health insurance was detected in 2023. Fraud detected thanks to specialized teams.
False work stoppages, treatment billed several times or fictitious ambulance transports are all frauds scrutinized in health insurance offices. A team from France Télévisions met sworn investigators. In Périgueux (Dordogne), there are five of them responsible for investigating the anomalies.
That day, an investigator looked into the case of a person with more than 40 days of sick leave and more than 6,000 euros in salary. “We have already worked on a file with this company and it was a fake employee”she remembers. Another target of recent scams is hearing aids. They add to an already long list of frauds.
