According to the German court, there is no doubt that Christian Bruckner (43) murdered Britain’s Maddie McCann in 2007. Prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters told the BBC that “the public would reach the same conclusions if they were aware of the evidence. ”.

Wolters said he is very certain that Bruckner killed Maddie, even though his investigative team does not currently have sufficient evidence to support it. Bruckner is currently in prison in Germany after a conviction for drug smuggling and rape. The sentence for drug offenses expires in January, after which Bruckner has to remain in jail for seven years for rape.
Waterproof lawsuit
In 2007 the British Madeleine McCann disappeared in Portugal. In the same resort where she stayed, Christian Bruckner raped a 72-year-old American woman. The man was not identified until 13 years later, in June 2020. But there is not yet sufficient evidence that he also kidnapped and murdered Maddie. “With the information we have, people would come to the same conclusions. But I cannot give details because we don’t want the accused to know what we are talking about him. It’s about tactical considerations, ”said Wolters.
Bruckner lived occasionally in Portugal for years, and investigators now believe he likely committed at least three other sex crimes there. “Two of them against children,” said Wolters. He also said the charges could follow next year, but he also admitted that the investigation has been very slow due to the logistical challenges. His team is said to be building a “watertight lawsuit”. “I cannot guarantee that we will have enough to press charges. But I have every confidence in it. Because with what we have so far, you cannot come to any other conclusion. ”
Last week, Police Commissioner Cressida Dick said the investigation is still on “a missing person”, as there is “no definitive evidence” that Madeleine is dead.
