The investigation continues into the Al-Aqibiya incident, which killed one Irish soldier serving in the UNIFIL forces and injured three others.
These investigations are taking place in light of Lebanon’s affirmation of the highest level of condemnation of what happened and its adherence to the role of international forces in the south, and the good and kind relationship with these forces.
Informed sources told Al Diyar that it is important to set the record straight and frame it after the official Lebanese position on this unfortunate incident, and indicated that the investigation is being conducted with accuracy and objectivity, away from the hustle and bustle caused by some situations, and c ‘is a continuous cooperation between the Lebanese army, UNIFIL forces and the authorities concerned.In the investigation to get to find out the circumstances of what happened.
The sources were careful not to elaborate on what was said and said about the incident and not to anticipate the investigations underway, noting at the same time that the preliminary data available do not indicate the existence of any background or political purpose in the incident.
Al Diyar learned that the leadership of UNIFIL expressed its appreciation for the Lebanese position, but stressed at the same time that a full investigation should be conducted to find out the truth and circumstances of what happened and that necessary measures should be taken to light of its results.
