A few hours before the football derby between SC Melk and Wieselburg kicked off, there was a large presence of police and special forces in the residential area near the stadium.
A man who lives in the housing estate is said to have threatened his partner and her daughter and then barricaded himself in a house. After almost an hour, the emergency services managed to persuade the accused to give up. The situation was quickly under control thanks to the trained police forces. The special unit did not have to storm the building, but was on duty because they knew that the man had a weapon, explains a police spokesman. During the course of the official act, a gas pistol was seized from the man. The man faces charges of dangerous threats and coercion.
After a night in custody, the man was released. However, the accused receives a weapons ban and an expulsion including a ban on approaching them.
District police commander Thomas Heinreichsberger praised the interaction of all the forces deployed: “The operation was highly professional with Cobra and district forces and was carried out well. “
In Melk this year, however, it is not the first family drama that led to a Cobra operation. While the family’s case ended comparatively lightly last weekend, there was a death in a family dispute in Spielberg in the spring, after which the alleged perpetrator barricaded himself in his mother’s house.
