Elementary school student with the initials B (8) in Medan, North Sumatra (North Sumatra) allegedly died after beingbully until he was beaten by a neighbor who was also his upperclassman. KPAI asked for this case to be investigated thoroughly and openly.
“KPAI strongly condemns this case, especially the victim’s child bullying to death. The biggest factor is child victims bullying apart from the physical, it is psychological, especially if it happens repeatedly,” said KPAI member Diyah Puspitarini to reporters, Sunday (2/7/2023).
Diyah said the KPAI was monitoring the case. KPAI also coordinate with related agencies in Medan.
“KPAI is conducting surveillance on this case by coordinating with the local UPTD, law enforcement officials and also the Education Office, especially the schools concerned,” he explained.
Furthermore, Diyah asked that this case be thoroughly investigated. He wants this case to be a lesson learned that currently Indonesia is in an emergency for child abuse.
“In any case bullying especially in children, it must be resolved thoroughly and openly, so that it becomes a shared learning how urgent violence against children is in Indonesia,” he said.
Meanwhile, Diyah expects the legal process in this case to prioritize the principles of the juvenile justice system. Moreover, he said, if the alleged perpetrator is a minor.
“However, it is still necessary to pay attention to the principle of SPPPA (child criminal justice system) and continue to prioritize the principle of presumption of innocence, especially for child witnesses and if there will be child perpetrators,” he said.
Police Examine 9 Witnesses
Medan Polrestabes is currently investigating the case of an elementary school student who allegedly died after being beaten and bullied. Now the police have examined 9 witnesses.
“For now we are still investigating the case. There have been 9 witnesses who have been examined,” said PS Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Medan Police, Kompol Teuku Fathir Mustafa, reported by detikSumut, Sunday (2/6/2023).
Fathir said the location of the incident was outside the school. He was still reluctant to mention the location where B was beaten.
“Regarding the location of the incident, exactly where, and others will be conveyed later,” he said.
