Very difficult to see Arianna Fontana at the start of the Short Track World Cup which will start in Montreal on October 20th. The two-time Olympic 500 meters champion is still waiting to hear the outcome of a disciplinary investigation.
An investigation opened last May and desired by the Olympic champion herself, to shed light on some behaviors in training with some teammates in the season which ended with the encore of five circles a Beijing, thus becoming the Italian with the most medals in the history of the Games.
A case that still risks being prolonged and which leaves a veil of uncertainty regarding his participation in the 2026 Games which will take place in Milan and Cortina; for her it would be the sixth time at five circles.
“I returned to Italy with the idea of being able to work in a constructive way but I am still waiting to know the outcome of a fundamental investigation for me which, according to the rules, should have ended yesterday – says Fontana in a post on his social profiles – The uncertainty of this situation has repercussions on the sporting side, which should be the only one that counts. My faith in the sports disciplinary system is put to the test, again. Just as once again any decision on my future can only be postponed until I finally have clarity and, I hope, as much justice“.
