NEW YORK — Former United States President Donald Trump installed a street clock in front of New York’s Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue years ago, which he did not register and for which he has never paid a permit, according to a investigation by The New York Times newspaper.
The city, in fact, didn’t go so far as to ask the Trump Organization to pay until 2015, after the Times asked local authorities about the clock for an article on public furniture.
The city then ordered the company to remove it, and engineers from the Trump Organization applied for a permit soon after that was never resolved.
The newspaper estimates that the price of installing a clock in the street of the characteristics of Trump is about 300 dollars a month.
Once Trump took over the Presidency of the United States, at the end of 2016, the local authorities abandoned the process of permitting the watch for security reasons. They applied again in July of this year, arguing that the company never completed their application.
A spokesman for the Trump Organization told the newspaper that they will work with authorities to keep the clock in front of the tower, as it is “a hallmark” of the building. The company has until July next year to regularize the situation.
