KPK currently investigating a corruption case liquefied natural gas (LNG) or liquefied natural gas at PT Pertamina for the 2011-2021 period which caused losses to the state of IDR 2.1 trillion. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigative team together with the Financial Audit Agency (CPC) has also been to the United States (US) to explore Pertamina’s LNG transaction cooperation.
“In the LNG case, yes, it is true that the investigative team together with the team from the Corruption Eradication Committee went to the United States in connection with the fulfillment of the search for evidence related to the matter in question,” said KPK Investigation Director Asep Guntur at the KPK, South Jakarta, Friday (22/9/2023 ).
In procuring LNG in Indonesia, Karen Agustiawan, who at that time served as Managing Director of Pertamina, collaborated with Corpus Christi Liquefaction (CCL) LLC in the United States as a producer and supplier. Asep said the KPK investigative team then went to the US to look for detailed documents on the cooperation.
“Of course tradingwith companies in America so we want to see what the related documents are like tradingit. “Starting from when the transaction took place, what the transaction was like, what the value was at the time of the transaction, then what the clauses were like in the contract they had,” said Asep.
“Because we of course have to confirm both parties. This is a party from Pertamina and a party from a company in America. We must have documents for both. Because just one document is not possible because there is no comparison as to whether the document in one of them is correct. parties,” he continued.
Asep also explained the reasons for involving a team from BPK when going to the United States. According to him, the BPK team was involved in investigating evidence of state losses from Pertamina LNG corruption.
“Why with the BPK? With the BPK because it is related to the alleged articles, namely Article 2, Article 3, where one of the elements of the article is state financial losses. So the BPK is the party that calculates the state’s financial losses,” said Asep.
