It was reported on the 30th that the prosecution, which is investigating the ‘suspicion of preferential hiring of Thai Star Jet’ by Mr. Seo (44), the former son-in-law of former President Moon Jae-in, recently summoned Mr. Seo for questioning.

According to this paper’s coverage, Jeonju Prosecutor’s Office Criminal Division 3 (Chief Seung-hak Lee) summoned Mr. Seo as a witness and investigated him on the morning of the 29th. Previously, on the 16th, the prosecution sent prosecutors and investigators to Seo’s home in Yangsan-si, Gyeongsangnam-do to conduct a search and seizure.

This investigation was conducted to understand how Mr. Seo, who had no aviation-related experience, was preferentially hired as managing director of Thai Star Jet in 2018. Prosecutors suspect that former Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Sang-jik was appointed chairman of the Small and Medium Venture Business Corporation (SME) in return for hiring Seo. Following his position as chairman of the Small and Medium Business Corporation, former lawmaker Lee was nominated by the Democratic Party during the general election in April 2020 and was elected in the Jeonju-si district of Jeollabuk-do. It is currently known that Mr. Seo is a witness.

In order to uncover suspicions about Seo’s preferential hiring, the prosecution began an investigation last year to identify the actual owner of Thai Star Jet. Former lawmaker Lee claimed that Thai Eastarjet was not his company, but in April of last year, prosecutors indicted him after discovering that former lawmaker Lee, the founder of Eastar Jet, was a company he founded by embezzling Eastar Jet funds. The prosecution reportedly obtained a statement from an Eastar Jet official that “Former lawmaker Lee Sang-jik instructed Thai Eastarjet CEO Park Seok-ho to hire Mr. Seo.” The prosecution also obtained a statement from Thai Starjet CEO Park Seok-ho, who said, “At the direction of former lawmaker Lee, I paid Mr. Seo 8 million won per month and 100,000 baht (approximately 3.5 million won) for monthly condo rent (where Mr. Seo’s family stayed while living in Thailand).” did.

Previously, the prosecution sent prosecutors and investigators to the Presidential Archives in Sejong City on the 9th to conduct a search and seizure. The prosecution is said to have confirmed the Blue House’s internal reporting documents related to the appointment of the chairman of the Small and Medium Business Corporation. In November last year, the prosecution searched and seized the Ministry of SMEs and Startups in Sejong City, the Ministry of Personnel Management, and the Small and Medium Business Corporation headquarters in Jinju, Gyeongsangnam-do.
