A native of Chechnya, Askhab Uspanov, who was detained after the terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall, died at the police station. About it writes “Agency” with reference to his mother Taisa Uspanova.
According to the woman, before his arrest, her son was on his way to work with his wife. After his arrest, Uspanov called his wife: she wanted to come to him, but he asked her not to do so. The man said that the police “had nothing” on him, but later called back and asked to come pick him up at the police station, clarifying that he had been rude to the security forces.
The wife arrived at the police two hours later. The security forces told her that “her husband is no more.” The woman was surprised and said that she had recently talked to her husband on the phone. According to Uspanov’s mother, in response to this the police officer said: “I was talking, but now you won’t.”
According to SPARK data, the Agency writes, Uspanov died on March 22, that is, on the day of the terrorist attack. He was registered as an individual entrepreneur, and his individual entrepreneur was liquidated on that day due to his death. According to Uspanov’s mother, the man was buried in Chechnya. She stated that her son could not have been involved in the terrorist attack.
The Chechen opposition publication 1ADAT was the first to report Uspanov’s death, citing its sources, emphasizing that the man was tortured to death. 1ADAT published video of Uspanov’s body: the man who filmed it says that security forces staged the Chechen’s suicide in an attempt to “conceal their crime.” Uspanov’s mother stated that her son could not commit suicide because he was a Muslim.
